About the Area
Just a couple of hours north of Dubrovnik is the region of Pelješac. A narrow, scenic peninsula known for its tranquil beaches, lush mountains & quaint villages. Villa Sipak is situated near the top end of this peninsula with access to the beautiful towns of Korcula & Hvar on their respective islands across the straits.
There is no doubt that other than lounging by the pool up at the Villa or exploring the many walks, villages and restaurants close to home - there is nothing like being out on the water on a boat. You can see in our Booking A Boat section, how you can rent your own for a few days.
Many of the loveliest restaurants, beaches, swimming bays and towns are best visited by boat. A list of the best restaurants can be found here.
Easy day trips are Dubrovnik, Ston, Miljet National Park, Hvar and Mostar.
WATER SPORTS
You will notice from the house that there is a lot of windsurfing action on the straits below the house. This happens off the Viganj point and it’s a fun place to walk down if you want to join in the sporting action or there are plenty of little bars and ice-cream stalls for those that prefer to just watch.
There is an excellent water sports school, Water Donkey https://www.windsurfing-kitesurfing-viganj.com, down here where you can have lessons to windsurf or kitesurf at beginner level (as young as 4 years old!) or for the more experienced, rent all the kit and get yourself out there.
WALKS
Just at the bottom of our steps is a dirt path that leads down to the sea through the olive groves. Once down by the sea you can swim off any of the stone jetty’s down there and the little pebble beaches are all public - a favourite for most friends and guests is a morning swim before breakfast.
Once down on the beach road, you can walk all the way along to the windsurfing point and beyond. Along the coast you will find little cafes, the baker, our local shop, vegetable stalls and the milkshake and pancake shack.
On the big jetty down by the local shop, the fishermen come in every couple of mornings with a boat load of fish which you can buy fresh off the boat.
If you fancy a quieter walk from the house, you can take the path that goes up the side of our neighbours house into the hamlet above us. Follow a path that takes you all the way along the side of the hill above the hamlets which are made up of partial ruins, some reclaimed houses such as ours and others in progress. There are paths that lead off back down to the road at various points so you can make your walks as long or short as you like.
MLJET NATIONAL PARK
This is definitely worth a day excursion to see. There is an incredible inland lake with a monastery on an island in the middle. If you can get to Pomena on the island (you may have to ask a few locals how you do this without your own boat) you can rent bikes and cycle in and all around the lake. You can either take a picnic with you or there is a restaurant on the island that has pizza/ pasta etc. it’s possibly one of the most beautiful places on earth, so definitely worth trying to get to https://www.mljettravel.com/national-park/
NAKOVANA
This is a national heritage sight about 5 minutes drive up into the hills and on the way to Loviste and well worth popping in to see it if you can. A very beautiful derelict stone village and there are some great walks (all signposted) around there and up to a cave in the mountains above.
